History

The Antillean Adventist University Library originated in 1961, when Antillean College was established in Mayagüez. The first library was located in a classroom on the first floor of the main building. Later, the library occupied the space above the cafeteria and what is now the Nursing Department and the Amphitheater.

On the occasion of the accreditation visit in 1978, construction began on the current Library building, which was inaugurated in 1979.

Later, the need to protect the building became apparent, and it was remodeled to make it more resistant to hurricanes; this renovation was made possible thanks to a donation from the Soto Rodríguez family. The building was reopened in August 1998 and named the Dennis Soto Library.

In April 2007, the final phase of the renovation was completed, which included the construction of safer staircases. In addition, an elevator was installed and the second and third floors were expanded.

Our library is located on Highway 106, Km. 2 inland, Balboa Ward, in Mayagüez. The Dennis Soto Library is housed in a three-story building, of which we currently occupy the first two floors, totaling approximately 14,000 square feet. It contains a collection of around 60,000 volumes.

The Library provides access to several databases of books and journals as an important part of our collection. Through these databases, students have access to more than 10,000 journal titles and over 300,000 ebooks from both multidisciplinary and specialized databases.
