PROGRAMA EN MORATORIA

El departamento de Terapia Respiratoria y Ciencias Cardiopulmonares se encuentra en moratoria. Por lo tanto, no se están aceptando nuevos estudiantes a este programa.

The Bachelor in Cardiopulmonary Science degree has the following PROGRAM GOALS:

1. To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs).
2. To prepare leaders for the field of respiratory care by including curricular content with objectives related to the acquisition of skills in one or more of the following: management, education, research and advanced clinical practice.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of the curriculum, graduates from the Cardiopulmonary Science program will demonstrate the following competencies:

Cognitive

• Possess the knowledge needed to pass the board examinations locally and /or nationally.
• Use verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills effectively in their profession.
• Demonstrate appropriate decision making skills based on critical thinking and clinical information analysis.
• Apply evidence-based practice by using established clinical practice guidelines and by evaluating published research for its relevance to patient care.
• Apply the principles of leadership and management in their professional area.

Psychomotor

• Master the skills necessary to properly execute the techniques or procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
• Manage correctly the equipment related to their profession, including technological equipment to ensure the quality of the cardiopulmonary care.

Affective

• Demonstrate consideration and respect for patients, their families, and the entire health care team.
• Serve in their profession in a legal, ethical, and safe manner.
• Serve as a health promoter and educator in the prevention and management of cardiopulmonary diseases.

Accreditation

The Cardiopulmonary Science Program at Antillean Adventist University, CoARC # 200621, Bachelor of Science degree, Mayaguez campus is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (www.coarc.com). The program has been placed on Probationary Accreditation as of November 3, 2023.

CoARC accredits respiratory therapy education programs in the United States. To achieve this end, it utilizes an ‘outcomes based’ process. Programmatic outcomes are performance indicators that reflect the extent to which the educational goals of the program are achieved and by which program effectiveness is documented.
