Bachelor in Cardiopulmonary Science

The Bachelor in Cardiopulmonary Science degree has the following PROGRAM GOAL:

  1. Prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs).

Program Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the curriculum, graduates from the Cardiopulmonary Science program will demonstrate the following competencies:
Cognitive:

  1. Possess the knowledge needed to pass the board examinations locally and /or nationally.
  2. Use verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills effectively in their profession.
  3. Demonstrate appropriate decision making skills based on critical thinking and clinical information analysis.
  4. Apply evidence-based practice by using established clinical practice guidelines and by evaluating published research for its relevance to patient care.
  5. Apply the principles of leadership and management in their professional area.

Psychomotor:

  1. Master the skills necessary to properly execute the techniques or procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  2. Manage correctly the equipment related to their profession, including technological equipment to ensure the quality of the cardiopulmonary care.

Affective:

  1. Demonstrate consideration and respect for patients, their families, and the entire health care team.
  2. Serve in their profession in a legal, ethical, and safe manner.
  3. Serve as a health promoter and educator in the prevention and management of cardiopulmonary diseases.

Accreditation:

The Cardiopulmonary Science Program at Antillean Adventist University, CoARC # 200621, Bachelor of Science degree, Mayaguez campus, holds Provisional Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (www.coarc.com).

This status signifies that a program with an Approval of Intent has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the Standards (through submission of an acceptable Provisional Accreditation Self Study Report (PSSR) and any other documentation required by the CoARC, as well as satisfactory completion of an initial on-site visit), to be allowed to admit students. It is recognized as an accredited program by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), which provides enrolled students who complete the program with eligibility for the Respiratory Care Credentialing Examination(s). The program will remain on Provisional Accreditation until it achieves Continuing Accreditation.”
