Description

Antillean University’s Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy program is designed to enable interested students to develop critical thinking skills, acquire skills, and perform responsibly in their area of specialty. In addition, Respiratory Therapy students will enhance their preparation with general courses for a balanced education. These courses will provide them with the opportunity to develop self-understanding, problem-solving skills in the scientific and social environment, and the communication skills essential for personal and professional relationships.

Graduate Profile

Upon completion of the program, the student graduating from the Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy will be able to meet the following competencies in the different domains:

  1. Possess the necessary knowledge to pass the revalidation exams required by the Puerto Rico Respiratory Care Examining Board.
  2. Use communication skills effectively in your profession, both oral and written.
  3. Demonstrate decision-making skills based on critical thinking and analysis of clinical information.
  4. Master the skills necessary to properly perform techniques or procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  5. Properly handle equipment related to your profession, including technological equipment, to ensure quality cardiopulmonary care.
  6. Demonstrate respect for others as a result of their relationship with God, as the Creator and sustainer of human beings.
  7. Maintain good interpersonal relationships and professionalism with peers, patients, and supervisors.
  8. Carry out their profession in a legal, ethical, and safe manner, demonstrating Christian values and attitudes.
  9. Appreciate the various study alternatives at a higher or specialized level, through undergraduate, graduate, or continuing education studies.
  10. Contribute to the development of the Respiratory Care profession by participating in community health promotion, disease prevention, and participating in professional organizations as a professional in the field of Respiratory Therapy.
