Graduate

Regular admission to the Education program requires the following:

  • Graduate Studies Application
  • Admission-fee payment, non-refundable
  • Official Credit Transcription of previous attended universities or colleges
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Essay (minimum two pages) explaining personal philosophy and professional objectives relating to continuance of graduate studies
  • Willingness to accept the University’s code of conduct
  • Show evidence of completing the following courses or their equivalent, at an undergraduate level with a grade no lower than C
    • EDUC 104 – Educational Philosophy
    • EDUC 203 – Social Foundations of Education
    • EDUC 321-332 – Specific Methods in the area of Specialization (Secondary or Elementary)
    • PSYC 201 – Human Growth Development and Psychology
    • EDUC 301 – Educational Technology
    • MATH 231 – Statistics
  • Have Bachelor Degree from an accredited university or college in the USA, or its equivalent, in the area of specialization, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with the subject specialization
  • Have a grade point average of 2.80 (undergraduate)
  • Show evidence of teaching experience (at least a year). If you have not taught previously, you should make arrangements to fulfill this requirement before the second summer (15 credits) of the graduate program
Note: Every candidate for admission in the Master Degree in Administration and School Supervision should have a teaching license and two years teaching in an accredited school before admission to the Graduate Studies Program.
  • Take the GRE (English) 500 points or EXADEP (Spanish) 500 points
  • For candidates who are going to teach in Puerto Rican Schools, the PCMAS (PR Teacher Certification Test) must be passed in the area of specialization. Licensed teachers are exempt from this requirement
  • For the ESL program (Secondary or Elementary) the candidate must demonstrate English proficiency, with the following evidence or results:
    • Minimum of 400 point – TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)* or
    • Minimum of 90% in the LOEP – Levels of English Proficiency Test (New Placement Test at Antillean)
    • Minimum of 500 points – GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
    • * The ESL students must take the LOEP or TOEFL and the GRE or EXADEP
  • Interview with the Graduate Studies Department Director of Antillean. If the student’s residence is outside of Puerto Rico, the interview may be done by phone
  • Every international student, non PR/USA resident, must fulfill the above-mentioned requirements and make a deposit of $2,800. This requirement should be fulfilled before the submission of the I-20 form, necessary for obtaining the student visa. If for any reason the student’s entrance to Puerto Rico is not possible, the deposit will be refunded after the return of the original 1-20 form.
