Federal College Work-Study Program (CWSP)

The Federal Government provides funds for the Work-Study Program. The participant is assigned a job for which he/she will receive a salary. The student will contribute the money earned to pay part of his/her educational expenses. Students are paid the minimum federal wage. It is the student's duty to make sure that his/her time cards are submitted to the Financial Aid Office appropriately identified with his/her identification number, name, and dates covered. The card must be properly signed by the student and by the supervisor.

This work concept forms an integral part of our university community, which benefits students and departments equally.

Work areas are limited to existing academic and administrative departments. Some of these require basic skills, while others demand more extensive knowledge and experience in particular areas. This is a scholarship program, which helps the student to defray costs. There are two work-study programs: the Federal and the Institutional Programs. All students participating in the Federal Student Financial Aid Programs may participate in the Work-Study Program, and receive the federal minimum wage. Students not participating in the Federal Programs take part in the Institutional Program, and will also receive an Institutional minimum wage.

Institutional Work Program

When the Federal Funds have been used up, the Institution continues supporting the work-study program. In this program, the Institutional wage is below the minimum wage as established by the Puerto Rico Labor Department.

Since International Students with F or B Visas are not eligible to receive Federal funds, they participate in this Institutional Program.
