The mission of the ESL Program is to help students improve their English communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, to ensure academic and professional excellence.
The ESL Program adapts four major goals directly linked to the US Title V mission and the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) standards of adult instruction.
The ESL Program is divided into two tracks: the academic and the professional. The academic track, offered specifically to full-time students, prepares learners to make a smooth transition into college English courses. It is made up of four courses. The professional track, open to both Antillean students and the community, is a separate program that begins in 2011. It will consist of seven courses.
All new students must take the LOEP (Levels of English Proficiency) exam. LOEP scores determine the proficiency level and adequate placement in courses.
