Antillean University’s library was created in 1961 when Antillean College was established in Mayaguez. The library was at first located in a classroom on the first floor of the main building. Later, the library was moved to a room over the cafeteria where the Nursing Department is found today.

An upcoming accreditation visit in 1978 served as motivation to start construction on a building for the library which was inaugurated in 1979.

Years later, there was a need to protect the building to secure it against hurricanes. The remodeling project took place thanks to a donation by the Soto Rodriguez Family. The building was re-inaugurated in August 1998 and the building was named the Dennis Soto Library.

In April 2007, the last stage of the remodeling was completed, which included the construction of a more secure stairway. In addition, an elevator was installed and the second and third floors were enlarged.

The library is located on Road 106, Km.2 Interior, Barrio Balboa, in Mayagüez. The building consists of three floors which holds a materials collection of over 85,000 volumes and a journal collection which exceeds 150 titles.

The computerized catalog gives easy access to more than 40,000 volumes of the collection. The catalog includes all books acquired since 1989 and other books that were already part of the collection.

The Dennis Soto Library gives its users access to the Internet and through its network gain entry to the EBSCO database which provides access to over 5,000 professional journals and magazines of general interest.
